P.S. Thank you so much for all of the pots. They will look great when we have a chance to plant some flowers inside them.

Swimming Pool Construction - The Process

Building a swimming pool is an extensive project. Hiring an experienced pool builder like Georgia Classic Pool will be key to making your experience go smoothly. It will be helpful to have a basic understanding of what steps are involved in swimming pool construction. Here is a basic overview of swimming pool installation procedures.

  • Grading
The pool site will need to be graded to remove any existing vegetation, grass or rocks. This provides a clean and mostly level area for the layout.
  • Layout
Georgia Classic Pool will spray an outline of the pool according to the dimensions on your pool plan and contract. This step will give you an accurate representation of the amount of space your pool will take up. Be sure to walk the area and make sure the layout is exactly what you want. Any changes after this point are usually costly.

  • Excavation
Georgia Classic Pool will use heavy equipment to remove the dirt in the swimming pool area. The actual hole is usually 12-inches larger than the finished dimensions of the pool to accommodate the forming material that will be placed.

  • Plumbing and Equipment Placement
Plumbing for pump, vacuum and water circulation will be installed using PVC pipe. Your chosen pool equipment (Jandy) will also be installed and placed.

  • Reinforcement
steel reinforcement (the basket) is used to construct the pool walls. Rebar is placed on the bottom of the pool, and up the sides and into the bond beam.

  • Inspections
Georgia Classic Pool will be inspecting the installation throughout each step. There are more formal inspections that must be adhered to for passing local codes. Local authorities will be contacted by Georgia Classic Pool to inspect the site at this point.
  • Shotcrete
Concrete is sprayed to the pool shell forming evenly between the rebar and pool wall. The concrete must be cured, so the pool must be watered up to two times a day for about a week. This minimizes shrinkage cracks.
  • Electricity and Gas Line
Electrical wiring will be run from your electric panel to the pool equipment and to the lighting within the pool. If your pool has a natural gas heater, a gas line will also be installed.

  • Tile and Coping
The pool waterline tile and the chosen coping will be installed. Now your pool will start to take on design and look more appealing.

  • Hardscapes & Custom Features
Hardscapes and custom project features will occur after tile/coping. This can generally take a little longer than the pool process up to this point depending on what you are having completed (ie, outdoor living, fireplace, walls/steps/hardscapes, etc.
  • Pool Deck
The pool decking you have chosen (concrete, bricks, pavers, etc.) will be installed.
  • Landscape
The landscape will be installed (if part of project scope) once all hardscapes are complete.
  • Barrier Requirements
Once the site is cleaned up and construction debris is removed, any pool safety barriers (ie, fence) will be installed.

  • Pre-Plaster Inspection
Depending on the local authority, there may be several inspections that will occur throughout the project process (site location, pool steel, electrical rough/final, plumbing rough/final, gas line, pool barrier)

  • Interior Finish Application
There are various types of interior finishes, including plaster and Pebble Tec. This will complete the inside of the pool and prepare it for being filled with water.

  • Pool Filling and Equipment Start
The pool should be filled with water to the proper level. The pool equipment should be started and made sure that all parts and systems are working properly.
